Ford to Supply Parts for U.S. Postal’s New Delivery Vehicles – Report

5 years 3 months ago

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is renewing its fleet of delivery vehicles and Ford Motor (F) has been tapped as parts supplier, according to a Reuters report.

The USPS contracted with Oskhosh Defense to have it build modern delivery vehicles for the postal service. The portfolio will consist of both electric and gasoline-powered vehicle models. Oskhosh Defense is a unit of Oshkosh Corp (OSK).

Ford will provide Oskhosh with engines and transmissions to use in making the new USPS delivery vehicles. Suspensions and other parts are also included. The parts will come from Ford’s Michigan plant, while Oskhosh will assemble the vehicles in South Carolina.

Oskhosh’s contract with the USPS could be worth more than $6 billion, according to Reuters, but Ford has not disclosed the financial terms of its deal. (See Ford stock chart on TipRanks)

Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas reiterated a Sell rating on Ford stock but raised the price target to $11 from $9. Jonas’ new price target implies 26.22% downside potential. The analyst sees opportunity for automakers in the connected, or remote services, car business.

In addition to the price target hike, Jonas lifted Ford’s 2021 EPS estimate by 12 cents to $1 and 2022 EPS estimate by eight cents to $1.38. The valuation changes mark the analyst’s first time giving credit to Ford's connected services.

"Recurring software derived and software delivered revenue will soon become table stakes and a highly competitive marketplace, but investors seem to be wrong-footed on the how quickly this can take root,” commented Jonas.

Consensus among analysts is a Moderate Buy based on 9 Buys, 6 Holds, and 1 Sell. The average Ford analyst price target of $15.25 implies 2.28% upside potential to current levels.

Ford scores a “Perfect 10” on TipRanks’ Smart Score rating system, indicating that the stock has strong potential to outperform market expectations.

Ford Buys Electriphi, Offers Depot Charging Solutions

5 years 4 months ago

Ford Motor Company (F) is buying Electriphi, a California-based provider of charging management and fleet monitoring software, to simplify the transition to electric vehicle fleets while saving time and costs for customers.

Electriphi will be combined with Ford Pro, Ford’s new business unit delivering Best-In-Class Commercial Products, Telematics, and Vehicles.

Ford believes this combination with Electriphi will boost the adoption of its EV fleet of vehicles like the F-150 Lightning Pro and the E-Transit van.

The acquisition is expected to close in June. Terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

According to Ford Pro, the depot charging industry is expected to grow to over 600,000 full-size trucks and vans by 2030.

With the transition towards electrification gaining pace in the commercial vehicle segment, Ford Pro aims to capture over $1 billion in revenue from charging by 2030. (See Ford stock chart on TipRanks)

Ford Pro CEO Ted Cannis said, “With Electriphi’s existing advanced technology IP in the Ford Pro electric vehicles and services portfolio, we will enhance the experience for commercial customers and be a single source solution for fleet-depot charging.”

From charging installation to operation, Electriphi’s charging platform will give customers a complete end-to-end solution, including employee home charging, public charging, and e-telematics solutions.

Cannis added, “Bringing Electriphi on board is the last component to complete Ford Pro’s strategy to establish a commanding leadership position in the software space and build out our full-service stack to create an always-on relationship with the commercial customer.”

Ford Raises Q2 EBIT Estimates, Claims Vehicle Orders are Expanding

5 years 4 months ago

The global automaker, Ford Motor Company (F), announced that second-quarter earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) will be higher-than-expected and considerably higher compared to the year-ago period. Q2 results are scheduled for July 28.

Despite industry-wide semiconductor shortages, Ford is witnessing an improvement in its motor business, propelled by lower-than-estimated costs and favorable market conditions. (See Ford stock chart on TipRanks)

Additionally, Ford Credit is benefitting from higher vehicle auction values.

However, the company stated that net income for the second quarter will be lower than in Q2 FY20 when a $3.5 billion gain on Ford’s investment in Argo AI was included.

The company’s CEO Jim Farley said, “We’re providing customers with great value today and there’s much more on the way, because we’re executing Ford+ from strength – with iconic nameplates and leading positions with retail and commercial customers around the world, and the best financing company in our industry in Ford Credit.”

Reservations for its new vehicles have expanded to 190,000 for the reimagined full-size Bronco SUV, 125,000 of which have already been converted to orders. Also, Ford has received 100,000 orders for the battery-electric F-150 Lightning pickup, 36,000 for the all-new Maverick compact pickup, and 20,000 for the all-electric E-Transit commercial van.

BofA Securities analyst John Murphy recently updated his long-term Electrical Vehicle penetration forecast for the U.S. market to 7% by 2025 (up from 4.5%), and for 2030, he sees EV penetration of 20% (up from 12.5%)

Having an overall bullish outlook for the EV sector, supported by favorable regulations under the Biden administration, Murphy reiterated a Buy rating on Ford with a price target of $17, implying 15.1% upside potential to current levels. Shares have gained 65% over the past six months.

Consensus among analysts is a Moderate Buy based on 9 Buys, 6 Holds, and 1 Sell. The average analyst price target of $15.13 implies that shares are almost fully priced at current levels, with approximately 2.4% upside potential over the next 12 months.

Ford scores a “Perfect 10” from TipRanks’ Smart Score rating system, indicating that the stock has strong potential to outperform market expectations.
